He started his career publishing in literary magazines. His first novel, Conversations with Friends, was published in 2017. A year later, the novel "Normal People" was published. The romance is based on the story of the two main characters in Rooney's "Hospital". In July 2018, the novel "Normal People" was nominated for the Man Booker Prize, in the same year it was recognized as "Irish Novel of the Year". In 2019, he won the Costa Novel Awards in the "Novel" category. Nominated for Dylan Thomas and Women's Literary Awards. Based on the novel, the TV series "Normal People" was shot in 2020. 320 pages.
